I feel like I can’t even qualify this blog post as a review— so let's call this is more of an ode. If you’ve been following me on Instagram (or if you know me at all), you’ll know that ‘love’ doesn’t even cover how I feel about Blackbird Doughnuts. They are my go to treat to bring to any gathering if I don’t feel like baking something myself, my favorite weekend treat, and without a doubt one of the most ‘instagrammable’ foods in Boston. Not to mention it is a favorite of celebrities like Adele and John Mayer.
One of the things I love most about Blackbird is that there is almost always something new to try along with your old favorites. I don’t think I have ever walked into their shop on Tremont and had enough self control to order just ONE doughnut— I mean what kind of person can do that? I usually get at LEAST two and usually around four (don’t worry, I share most of the time).
Of the more classic flavors that they tend to always offer, I tend to go for the Boston Cream and the Chocolate Sprinkle. They also offer soft serve which you can enjoy on its own or make into a doughnut ice cream sandwich. If you're looking for a unique treat for a special occasion, you can't go wrong with one of their doughnut cakes.
Blackbird has two locations, the original in the South End and the newest one in Fenway. As they are small shops, there isn’t room to sit down inside so keep that in mind when planning a visit. You can also order them off the brunch menu at the Gallows.
